Hope never dies
Hope is always there
No matter what happens
We can't give it up.

We may be blinded by
the shadows of despair:
fogging our minds until we surrender to its deceit.
But remember that we can wade through the darkness;
pull through its pools
that try to consume us whole.

The darkness may look appealing
Its power mesmerizes us
But the light is always there for us
More powerful than any shadow you may find

and any trough you may fall in.
Look past all negativity and see
how beautiful you are. Love yourself
and watch others fall in love with you too.
Because really, wishes for happiness do come true,
no matter who you are.

Holocaust Twenty steps. Now, nineteen steps, Each step brings me to my death. I see chimneys spewing smoke. To the dark sky it rises. To the front, the pit of hell. Holocaust; Remember the children who were abused The whole affair makes me so confused How could it have gone on so long Why were they taken somewhere they didn't belong? These children were hurt for something so stupid They were punished and killed for things they never did Who would be so utterly cruel, to cause such pain and misery Why did it take so long for others to see? Ironically, Inevitably

time travels in a straight line millions of tiny straight lines vectors and bonds lined up like the atomic gridwork that lets granite stay granite for a very long time but long to us isn’t long to granite and what we interpret as straight lines aren’t; hinged at fluid endpoints even its straights bend like wind around a corner these arcs are lost to our short view as is the formation of our own extinction event as we peer out from its epicenter our end, symbolized by the stone gods we carry into the surf into the star churning dark of pre-dawn waters, shedding the allure they never really had our delusion was, ironically, the only place we thought we’d have a chance; treading moments, treading water treading tangled in rescue line while the stone strung to the other end, inevitably, sinks the slack tight

First inhalations past the threshold, wordless perfume somewhere between dust, sunlight blooming floral in an open mouth, and linen. My grandfather said his first action home after slipping the tired strap of his travel-bag off his shoulders was to kiss the coverlet of his bed, and at eight I couldn't comprehend. Now I understand it is prayer and apology for wanderlust, infidelity to spaces we so often take for granted. I cannot steal his ritual, so mine lingers in breath instead-- I refuse to breathe until I open the door, until I hunger for home, and home becomes my lungs again. I breathe around the word like wine, lips closing around the syllable, a spoonful of shepherd's pie. I am the sommelier of journey's end; it is never the same bouquet twice. Sometimes the rice has gone bad in the fridge, overpowering the ghost of lavender; Sometimes three o'clock warms old candle wax, leaving notes of peony and laughter. I savor all the same.
